Today, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte arrived in Erbil on an official visit to the Kurdistan Region.
To welcome him at the airport, the President of the Council of Ministers of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Nechirvan Barzani.
Present, among others, Mrs. Rezan Kader High Representative in Italy and to the Holy See, Interior Minister Karim Sinjari and Head of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Falah Mustafa Bakir.
During the meeting the two PMs discussed a number of issues including efforts to consolidate bilateral relations between the two countries.
In a joint press conference, the President declared the Kurdistan Region has made exceptional efforts against terrorism and praised the maturity of the Kurdish people demonstrated at the last political elections.
Prime Minister Nechirwan Barzani has praised the assistance provided by Italy by affirming that there is a very strong relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Italy in terms of politics and culture.
Italy is a member of the US-led global coalition to defeat Da'esh and has trained about 20,000 Kurdish security forces over the years.
Subsequently, President Conte visited the military base "Camp Singara" to greet the Italian contingent.
