Land of Nineveh Archeological Project

On the 9th of December, at Palazzo Ferrajoli, the representative office of the Italian Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, the High Representative Mrs. Rezan Kader attended the press conference held to celebrate the surprising results achieved by the Italian-Kurdish archaeological project "The land of Nineveh".
The project started in 2012 under the guidance of Dr. Daniele Morandi Bonacossi and Dr. Hasan Ahmed Qasim.
The archeological discovery brought to light 10 imposing reliefs depicting the sovereign and the Great Gods of Assyria, along a large irrigation canal carved into the rock.


The archaeological site is located in the Kurdistan Region at no more than 20 km from the city of Duhok.
As emphasised by those attending the conference, this discovery is a clear example of the
greatness that can be achieved through international cooperation.
Furthermore - Mrs. Kader stated - the value of culture and archaeological missions is universal, it belongs to all humanity and contributes to the evolution of all of us in a transversal way.
The Italo-Kurdish Project was born thanks to the collaboration of several institutions and individuals such as the Kurdistan-Iraq Regional Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, MIUR, Friuli Foundation, ArcheoCrowd, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and University of Udine.
The Kurdistan Region, part of ancient Mesopotamia, is a land not fully explored yet where many treasures are still hidden, continues the High Representative Mrs. Kader, who thanks to all who have contributed in this great work and the Italian institutions that carried out a real archeological rescue mission.
