On December 10th, on the occasion of Human Rights Day, the Kurdistan Regional Government Representation in Italy, together with the Italian Society for International Organisation - SIOI, organised the event entitled "The Kurds, the Rights of People Betrayed by History ”.
The conference, held at the SIOI headquarters in Rome and moderated by the President Mr. Franco Frattini, saw Mrs. Rezan Kader, the High Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government to Italy and to the Holy See and Mr. Bruno Giordano, Magistrate at the Court of Cassation, as well as President of the Movement for Justice - Art.3, as speakers.
The President Mr. Frattini opened the conference illustrating the importance that Kurdistan covers within the international scenario from a geopolitical point of view and then gave the floor to the High Representative Mrs. Kader who exhaustively reviewed the violations of fundamental rights and the horrors suffered by the Kurdish people since the rise of Saddam Hussein up to the present day.
In this regard, Mrs. Rezan Kader emphasised the need for the promotion of human rights through the dissemination of experiences and historical testimonies, as it is only through awareness of past actions and knowledge of history that it is possible to avoid such violations of fundamental rights and freedoms.
The magistrate Mr. Bruno Giordano, supporting the High Representative’s words, addressed the issue of Human Rights starting from the dualistic concept between law and morality, finally placing a strong emphasis on the importance of the Responsibility to Protect, a commitment which has to be strengthened by the whole international community.
