

On October 21, Mrs. Rezan Kader, the High Representative of
Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq in Italy intervened in the
Department of History and Preservation of Cultural Heritage,
University of Udine, on the occasion of presentation of the results
of the project " PARTeN and project documentation, protection and
enhancement of the cultural heritage of northern Iraqi Kurdistan."
At the event, also as a speaker, Governor of Dohuk, Dr. Farhad
Atrushi in official visit to Italy.
The " Regional archaeological Project, Land of Nineveh" is a broad
interdisciplinary research conducted by the "Italian Archaeological
Mission in Assyria" (MAIA) of the University of Udine.
The project aims to study the archaeological landscape of the region
of Dohuk and to document and highlight the extraordinary
archaeological heritage of this region.
The meeting was opened by the welcome message from the Rector of the
University of Udine, Dr. Alberto F. De Toni and the highest local
authorities, such as Dr. Peter Fontanini, President of the Province
of Udine and Dr. Furio Honsell, Mayor of Udine.
Mrs. Kader, in her speech, thanked and praised the work of
researchers in the archaeological mission and has drawn attention to
what is happening in Iraq and in the Kurdistan Region. She thanked
the Italian Government, the Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the person of the Minister Mogherini
for being one of the first European governments to be present in the
Kurdistan Region by providing humanitarian assistance, political
support and military support recently.
In particular, Mrs. Kader highlighted the plight of hundreds of
women and girls from the minority Yazidi who are taken captive by
militants of the Islamic State and sold for a few hundred dollars.
Finally, the High Representative, has launched an appeal for
solidarity and support to the Kurdistan Regional Government, raising
awareness of the institutions at the national level but especially
at European and international level to ensure that crimes of this
magnitude are no longer committed.
